우연히 찾아낸 1970년대 홈 비디오 필름 속에 등장하는 강아지들을 편집기로 재생하고, 그 장면을 촬영했다. 편집기 위에서 필름은 ‘영사’라는 완성된 상태에 미달한 채 파편적으로 흐른다. 영사기와 달리 편집기에서는 손으로 직접 릴을 돌릴 때 비로소 영상이 살아난다. 과거 누군가가 손에 들고 찍었을 사랑스러운 순간. 영상 속 강아지들은 인간보다 짧은 생의 주기를 지나 이미 이 세상에 존재하지 않겠지만, 편집기의 불완전한 빛 사이로 명멸하는 그들의 움직임은 죽음을 유예한다.

Dogs from 1970s home video footage, discovered by chance, were played back on a film editor and re-filmed. On the editing deck, the film flows fragmentarily, falling short of the complete state of “projection.” Unlike a projector, the footage only comes alive when the reel is turned by hand. These are glimpses of tender moments once captured handheld by someone. The dogs in these images have likely already passed from this world, having lived out their shorter lives, yet their movements flickering through the film editor’s imperfect light hold death at bay.
